Why join UNCTAD's High-level IIA Conference?
This
3-day high-level conference will carry IIA reform to the next phase.
IIA reform has made significant progress, with a large number of
countries following UNCTAD's Road Map for IIA Reform (phase 1 of IIA reform). However, much work remains to be done to modernize the existing stock of "old-generation" IIAs (phase 2 of IIA reform). Chapter III of the World Investment Report 2017
sets out and discusses 10 options to reform old-generation treaties
that countries can adapt and adopt in line with their specific reform
objectives.
Based on a stocktaking of reform
and policy options at hand, the Annual High-level IIA Conference will
share experiences and identify best practices for phase 2 of IIA reform.
The conference builds on a series of earlier UNCTAD IIA-related
conferences, including at the World Investment Forum in Nairobi, Kenya in July 2016.
Join us to:
- Engage with other experts: join the discussion with high-level experts from the investment and development community, including governments, inter-governmental organizations, the private sector, civil society and academia.
- Share your experiences: experts will share experiences of their country’s or stakeholders’ approach to IIA reform to identify lessons learned, best practices and the way forward.
- Review UNCTAD’s tools on IIA reform: experts will review their use of UNCTAD’s Investment Policy Framework for Sustainable Development, UNCTAD’s Road Map for IIA Reform and UNCTAD’s 10 reform options for Phase 2 of IIA Reform, providing feedback, comments and suggestions for future editions.
- Chart the way forward towards the 2018 IIA Conference at the 6th World Investment Forum (WIF), scheduled to take place in Geneva in 2018.
We look forward to welcoming you in Geneva and hearing your views on how to help move IIA reform to the next level.
Best regards,
The UNCTAD IIA Team
